The City of Raleigh has announced a new partnership with the world’s leading car-sharing network, Zipcar, Inc. The Zipcar program offers convenient and affordable transportation options, available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week for drivers 21 and up. If you’re not familiar with the Zipcar program, it is a service that allows drivers to rent a car for as little as an hour to several days. Residents must pay a $25 application fee plus a $50 annual fee, and rental rates range from $7.50 an hour to $69 per day. Gas, insurance, reserved parking spots, and up to 180 miles of driving per day are included in Zipcar’s rates. “If someone needs to run an errand or attend an appointment these vehicles are invaluable. They will also be a huge asset for growing our residential community in Downtown Raleigh,” said David Eatman, City of Raleigh Transit administrator. Zipcar even has an app for iPhones and Androids that allows users to make reservations, lock and unlock vehicles, and remotely honk the horn to help locate the car! This is an exciting new development, especially for the Downtown community of biker, pedestrian, and public transit commuters. Click here to learn more!
