On a personal note…

Jen has had a nice summer. Jen’s children were on track-out in July so Jen’s family was able to take a quick trip to Hueston Woods in Ohio for a family reunion. There were about 60 family members there; they all rented cabins that were in the same cul-de-sac, which was nice for everyone to have their own space yet be close together. Jen’s children and husband met many family members that they had never met before. Jen is looking forward to next year’s reunion. Also, Jen’s children took part in the Wrightsville Beach surf camp, which was a lot of fun for them. Jen cannot believe that her oldest is starting middle school this year and her youngest will be in 4th grade – time flies!

Jason has had a busy, but great summer so far! He climbed Mt. Rainier again in June and while they didn’t summit, the team still had a great adventure. They stuck to the common climbing motto, “Going up is optional, coming down is mandatory!” Jason and his fiance, Samantha, have been working really hard on their new home and hope to move in later in September, just in time for their November wedding. Outside of those adventures, he’s still playing soccer and recently has tried to pick up golf and tennis!

The summer has been busy as usual for Sharon and her kids. Sam has been traveling and rehearsing every weekend with the Carolina Gold Marching Band and he is having a blast. He is also getting ready to start his first semester at Wake Tech in August! Ryan has been busy with his internship at the NC Theatre at Raleigh’s Memorial Auditorium, and was able to assist with the sound design for the productions of Oklahoma and Beauty and the Beast. Sharon has been working hard as usual, but was able to enjoy a few days over July 4th at Wrightsville Beach, and has been putting in the miles biking on the Neuse River Greenway. They are all looking forward to their move this fall to their new home in Knightdale with a little more space and parking for the family!

June was wonderful for Erika and her family as they took a two week vacation to Hawaii to visit their son, Jesse, who is stationed in the Navy at Kaneohe Bay. While there, they toured Peal Harbor, the Dole Pineapple Plant, jumped off cliffs at Waimea Bay, hiked Hanuma Bay, snorkeled and saw wild sea turtles, and enjoyed the island’s finest luau at Paradise Cove, among other things! It was truly paradise and they plan to go back soon! Since Erika and her family left, Jesse has been promoted to 3rd class petty officer and they are so proud!

Summer started off with celebrations for the Medlin’s. Their youngest son graduated high school and spread his wings with a sky dive right after the ceremony! They move their oldest son back to start his junior year and the other off for his first year of college later this summer. The Medlin nest will be empty! Ray and Kathleen are looking forward to visiting their boys as often as possible and cheering on their Mountaineers at fall football games!
Justin had a great June and July, staying very busy helping all of his buyer clients find their new homes. He was able to sneak away to Lake Gaston for a beautiful 4th of July. While in Raleigh, Justin was able to enjoy the mostly sunny weather playing basketball or tennis in his spare evenings. Justin is ready for the fall and for football to come back!

Hunter has had a great summer so far. Aside from trying to stay cool from the scorching heat, he has enjoyed spending time with friends and family. He was able to visit some buddies in Tampa, Florida, over the fourth of July, and has been helping train his brother for his upcoming high school football season. Other than that, he is getting ready for the best time of the year- fall – and all the football that will be going on!

Real Estate NewsRaleigh is ranked as the #1 large city for first time home buyers! As the dream of homeownership becomes increasingly out-of-reach for many millennials, Raleigh may be a bright spot — a new study ranked it the best large city for first-time homebuyers. The study, conducted by Washington D.C.-based personal finance website WalletHub, compared the real estate market, affordability, and quality of life across 300 cities in the U.S., including nine in North Carolina.

Did you know? North Carolina FC just announced their preferred site for a new soccer stadium complex, in the event the team receives a bid to join the Major League Soccer (MLS). The bid would result in Raleigh having 2 major professional sports organizations. The proposed site is slightly east of Capital Boulevard, just south of Peace St. The proposed stadium would boast additional space for restaurants, retail, and office space.
