This Friday downtown Apex will make a big move on the road to green-living by opening its first public car-charging station. There will be three charging spaces in the Saunders Street parking lot, across from the Apex Police Department, that are free of cost and available to the general public. The stations will cover a variety of electric cars. One is equipped with an Eaton DC Quick Charger that can charge Tesla vehicles, the Nissan LEAF, and the Mitsubishi i-MiEV to about an 80 percent charge in 20 to 30 minutes. The other two spaces have GE Level 2 chargers, which can accommodate all electric vehicles with about 40 miles of charge in three to four hours.
