#TBT We are throwing back to 1940 today, and the Manmur Bowling Alley in Raleigh. Constructed in 1939 on the 2500 block of Hillsborough Street, it was built on a vacant lot previously occupied by the main building of the State Fairgrounds. The bowling alley was the principal tenant of the building, which also included a barber shop, shoe store, and a soda shop. In 1959, the bowling alley was destroyed by a fire. A new bowling alley, Western Lanes, opened in the same location in 1960. It later became known as The Alley. Last week, the Alley closed its doors to make way for a Target store.
