On a personal note…

Jen’s youngest turned nine this month, so Jen’s family celebrated just how her youngest likes to by baking a unicorn cake, doing lots of cooking and filling the house with unicorn and rainbow themed items and, of course, lots of sparkles. Jen is far from a chef but she did her best to appease her youngest for her special day that always seems to extend into the whole month! Jen took advantage of the awesome August weather by taking walks during her children’s soccer practices. Also, she was able to take a quick overnight trip to Wrightsville Beach to enjoy the waves which were much higher due to the tropical storms that have been brewing in the south.

Jason had an amazing August! He had a great weekend in the Outer Banks with some close friends and their children, which was awesome! He also made a trip to Las Vegas where he had a blast and his girlfriend, Samantha, landed UFC championship tickets, which has always been something he wanted to do. It was even better that he didn’t lose too badly on the craps tables! He recently bought a little rental house that he is in the process of fixing up, and in his spare time, he is playing soccer and getting ready for the next semester of teaching to start. And of course, he still has hopes of his Redskins going to the Super Bowl this year!

Sharon started off August with an amazing vacation to Mexico with her good friend Teri and new friends, Pickette and BJ. These four amigas had some well needed R&R and lots of fun in the sun at the Eldorado Hotel in the Riviera Maya. It was a week she will never forget!! Sharon’s mom Norma came into town to stay with Sam so Sharon could get away…Thanks MOM!! You are the Best!! Sharon and her boyfriend Roger also spent time boating and got to see several outdoor concerts this month! The other big news is that Sharon’s son Sam got his driver’s license and his first car!! He passed his road test on the first try and was so excited!! Ryan spent his month volunteering with the RLT’s production of Memphis and lots of biking on the greenways! They both started school at the end of the month, Ryan in tenth grade and Sam starting his Senior Year!! Boy does time fly!

Erika’s family is not sure where August went. Macy has been missed as she continues to train with Basrison Dressage in New Jersey. Hopefully the family will get to have her home for a visit soon. Macy says she learns more every day and loves where she is. Marlayna is busy with soccer, of course, with trainings, scrimmages, and already traveling this season. Alabama is under her belt already, but the Florida trip got canceled due to rain. Marlayna has two college overnight visits scheduled for September, then she will be just about ready to commit. Perry has gotten a new job driving the ice cream truck for Lumpy’s Ice Cream in Wake Forest. His first event was the Railhawks soccer game…not a bad deal…ice cream and soccer! This will be a short gig until he is ready to ship off to the Navy. Jesse is in the middle of the Pacific somewhere and has been able to email from the boat and even call mom once! He said the skies at night are amazing! Morgan still plugs away at her senior year at ASU and is trying to decide whether to get a job after graduation or go straight into grad school.

Did you know? The community of Mordecai, located just north of downtown, is Raleigh’s oldest neighborhood. At its center is the Mordecai house and park, which includes the cabin where President Andrew Johnson was born. The home and original 5,000 acre plantation was owned by Moses Mordecai, a young lawyer from Warrenton, N.C, and stretched from the present location of the house out to the present locations of Glenwood Avenue and St. Augustine’s University. The house and land were passed down through the family until one of the daughters, Patty, started selling off the plantation land and investing the money into developing Raleigh’s first neighborhoods — Mordecai, Oakwood, Brooklyn, Glenwood.

Exciting news! According to Wells Fargo Economic Outlook, Charlotte and Raleigh lead North Carolina in home appreciation and sales volume from 2010 to the present!
