#TBT – Today we are flashing back to the 1920’s and the Sir Walter Raleigh Hotel, the oldest surviving hotel building in Raleigh. Constructed in 1923-1924, the building on Fayetteville Street is typical of hotels from the 1920’s. Because of its proximity to the state capital, it housed as much as 80% of the state legislature when it was in session. It was converted to apartments for seniors in the 1970’s. The building was placed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1978. Happy Thursday!
