#TBT – We are throwing back to the 1960’s today, with a postcard of the Raleigh Cabana Motel. The motel was built in 1962 on the busy 500 block of Salisbury Street, and was one of only three downtown motels. By the late 1970’s, the once vibrant downtown district was full of vacant buildings, and the hotel closed in 1977. The building was demolished in 1980. After six years of planning and three years of construction, the Raleigh Convention Center opened in 2008 where the motel once stood.
