Did you just buy a new house? Congratulations! Now, it’s time to get to work on packing up for your big move.
You’ll want to start gathering old newspapers, bubble wrap, and magazines to wrap fragile items like glassware and dishes. Packaging tape is certainly a must-have and splurging on a tape dispenser will make the taping portion of your packing process much easier, not to mention faster.
Of course, you are going to need boxes—lots of them, in all shapes and sizes. But, how many will you need? Depending on the size of your home and the number of years you’ve lived there, it may range quite a bit.
This infographic created for Coldwell Banker by NorthStar Moving Company, offers a useful way to determine just how many moving boxes you will need to complete your move.
There are numerous ways to gather boxes—free of charge—in preparation for your move. Consider asking friends and family for any empty boxes they may have on hand. Check out online sales sites like Craigslist or Freecycle. Stop by your local grocer or ABC store to ask for discarded boxes they plan to recycle. The more free boxes you gather, the less you will have to purchase, which will help to reduce your moving costs.
